What Is Endometriosis?
Endometriosis is a condition that affects approximately 1 in 10 menstruating females. It is a painful condition that can limit a woman's ability to go to school, work or participate in the social activities that they love.  Endometriosis occurs when endometrial tissue ( the tissue on the inside of the uterus) grows outside of the uterus. It can grow on the outside of the uterus, the bladder or even the intestinal lining.  Every month, even though these lesions are on the outside of the uterus, they bleed and cause inflammation and insight an array of symptoms.  While taking oral contraceptives can diminish the symptoms of pain associated with endometriosis, it does not get rid of the lesions. Current medical thinking indicates that there is likely a low level of an inflammatory response occurring in our body despite the decline in growth of the lesions.  The scar tissue from chronic inflammation may continue to grow.  In addition, the chronic inflammatory response that continues at these lesion sights can impact the entire system and leave women with symptoms of fatigue, hormone imbalance and symptoms of IBS.
Symptoms of Endometriosis:

painful periods
Heavy menstrual flow
back pain
pelvic pain
bloating
IBS related symptoms
Painful intercourse
Headaches
painfull bowel movements
Pain Related To Endometriosis Is Multifactorial
Painful periods related to endometriosis can be life limiting for many women.  Missing school, work and children's and social events due to pain whether it is the time of your period or not, can create frustration, sadness and a sense of lack of control in your life. If you have struggled with pain for years (whether it is back pain, hip pain or pelvic pain) and you have endometriosis, now is the time to take charge of your body and reclaim your life.  While you cannot remove the lesions, working to remove inflammatory agents, triggers and stress can significantly impact your pain.
